Master the U.S. Citizenship Test with Real Oral Practice

For most applicants, the civics test is drawn from a pool of 100 official questions (the 2008 test version). During your interview, a USCIS officer asks you up to 10 questions orally. You must answer at least 6 questions correctly (60%) to pass. Once you answer 6 correctly, the officer stops the test.

USCIS periodically pilots and updates test questions. However, the standard test administered to naturalization applicants remains the 2008 100-civics questions test. If you are 65 years old or older and have lived in the United States as a lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder) for at least 20 years, you qualify for the 65/20 special consideration. You only study 20 designated questions marked with an asterisk (*), need 6 out of 10 correct to pass, and may take the test in your native language with an interpreter.

If you do not pass the civics test or the English test at your initial interview, USCIS gives you a second opportunity. You will be re-tested on the portion you failed within 60 to 90 days of your initial interview date.
